Developing the Introduction and Conclusion

Good opening previews what’s to come in a speech, and a closing ensures the audience remembers the speech.  Examples, stories, testimony, facts, or statistics can be used to open and close a speech.  The introduction and conclusion should be prepared after you’ve completed the speech body.  Keep your opening and closing to no more than 10% of the speech.  Be sure to practice your introduction and conclusion until you feel confident you’ve got it right.
